Club WC 25 Final Preview

Chelsea and PSG clash in the Club WC Final, with the former having knocked out Fluminense in the semi-finals before PSG beat Real Madrid 4-0 in the second semi-final. The newly crowned CL champions are big odds favourites ahead of this one. Let’s take a closer look at what we can expect from the final!

Chelsea – PSG

MetLife Stadium, Sunday @ 21:00 CET

After an intense and eventful few weeks, we’ve only got one more match to go in the Club WC, the final. PSG was one of the pre-tournament favourites, and they’re facing a Chelsea team that are hoping to add another trophy to their cabinet after their ECL success earlier this summer.

What to Expect from Chelsea

Maresca’s side might have been a bit lucky with the draw, but you can only beat the teams you are up against, and Chelsea have gotten the job done at every hurdle so far. Here are their results so far in the tournament:

Group Stage:
Chelsea – LAFC: 2-0
Flamengo – Chelsea: 3-1
ES Tunis – Chelsea: 0-3

Round of 16:
Benfica – Chelsea 1-4 (AET)

Quarter-final:
Palmeiras – Chelsea: 1-2

Semi-final:
Fluminense – Chelsea: 0-2

Chelsea go into this match as underdogs, especially after PSG’s dominative display against Real Madrid in the semi-finals. Chelsea might not have had the most difficult path to the final, but they’ve still shown impressive form throughout the tournament. They did lose to Flamengo, although Jackson’s red card in the 68th minute certainly didn’t help in that match.

Liam Delap and Levi Colwill are back from suspension, giving Maresca a few more options. The former started all of Chelsea’s matches up until the semi-final after Jackson’s red card against Flamengo, and could easily start again here on his return from suspension.

Joao Pedro’s two goals in the semi-final in his first start for the club certainly raised a few eyebrows, and the Chelsea faithful will be hoping to see more of the same on Sunday. It certainly would be hard to exclude him from the starting eleven after his performance against Fluminense. Reece James came in from the bench in their last game, so there is a chance he is fit enough to start here.

What to Expect from PSG

PSG seem determined to win their second major trophy in a month, and their performance against Real Madrid was nothing short of spectacular. The 4-0 win ensures they are huge favourites in the final, and echoed their opening fixtures against Atlético Madrid. Here are their results so far in the tournament:

Group Stage:
PSG – Atlético Madrid: 4-0
PSG – Botafogo: 0-1
Seattle Sounders – PSG: 0-2

Round of 16:
PSG – Inter Miami: 4-0

Quarter-final:
PSG – Bayern Munich: 2-0

Semi-final:
PSG – Real Madrid: 4-0

PSG are naturally big favourites in this final, but they will have to make do without Pacho and Lucas Hernandez as both players are still out with a suspension. Other than that, Luis Enrique can prepare for the match without any big issues, with Dembele seemingly also having shaken off his injury and finding his form.

PSG’s attack have been on fire throughout the tournament, and the team that beat Inter 5-0 in the CL final earlier this summer are hoping for another magical night this Sunday.
