Transfer Watch: Rashford to Barcelona?

There have been plenty of rumours regarding Rashford’s next destination, and he is one of the players available in our transfer window odds. Although Bayern Munich and Fenerbahce have been mentioned, here’s why we think he’ll end up at Barcelona!

It’s what he wants… apparently

Rashford’s time at Man Utd seems to have come to an end, despite some good performances for Aston Villa during his loan spell in Birmingham. The attacker has reportedly turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia, as his focus is supposedly now on a move to Barcelona. One issue could be his wages, with Rashford currently at £325k a month in Manchester until his contract expires in June 2018.

Barcelona have notoriously struggled financially lately, so the reported £40million in asking price and the high wages could be an issue, although life (and football clubs of that stature) usually finds a way…

The fact that Rashford reportedly turned down a huge offer from Saudi does hint towards him wanting to stay in Europe, with Barcelona his preferred option.

Barcelona are looking for “cheap” options

As mentioned, Barcelona aren’t exactly able to splash the cash lately, and the financials on this deal could be tricky. Despite the high wages and potentially high transfer fee, the fact that Man Utd seem to have decided to move on from Rashford, could lead to the Manchester club relaxing some of their demands.

Alternatively, Barcelona could be looking for a loan deal with an option to buy, spreading their costs out. A loan move might also lead to Barcelona covering the wages, which would help Man Utd financially and could tip the deal in Barcelona’s favour.

New Season – New Rashford?

There’s never been any real doubt regarding Rashford’s potential, and despite his recent struggles in Manchester, there is a feeling that he could re-ignite his career elsewhere. His loan spell at Aston Villa ended with an injury, but he did manage 2 goals and 2 assists in 10 PL appearances for the club.

A new league, a different team, new team mates and a different manager might be just what the England international needs, and one could argue his playing style should fit Barcelona and the Spanish league very well. His relationship with the Man Utd fans and Amorim have cooled, so maybe Barcelona is just the place for rejuvenate his career again.
